Become an Altar Server

Open to children in 3rd grade through adults

Serving at the altar is a special opportunity to assist the priest and deacon during the celebration of the Holy Mass. Altar servers have a privileged role in the liturgy, helping create a prayerful and reverent environment where the faithful can more fully worship God.

Altar servers carry the cross and candles, assist with the preparation of the altar, present the gifts, and help with other liturgical duties during Mass and special celebrations. Through their service, they grow in their understanding of the Mass, deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, and learn the beauty and traditions of the Catholic faith.

Serving at the altar is more than performing tasks—it is a ministry of prayer, reverence, and discipleship. It is an opportunity to answer God’s call to serve His Church with joy and humility while developing leadership, responsibility, and confidence.

Whether you are a child receiving your First Holy Communion, a teenager looking to become more involved in parish life, or an adult who wishes to serve in a meaningful way, we welcome you to become part of this important ministry.

Who Can Serve?

• Children beginning in 3rd grade (after receiving First Holy Communion)
• Teens
• Adults of all ages

Training is provided, and no prior experience is necessary. We invite you to prayerfully consider serving at the Lord’s altar and becoming an important part of the liturgical life of St. Michael the Archangel Parish.
